I had a Motorola cable modem at my apartment for use with Comcast High Speed Internet service. When I first installed it, the software from Comcast choked. When I called a few times they finally figured out that I was not "provisioned."
So, I got that straighten out and got online. No real problems for about 4 months (one day it was down for a couple hours.)
Now, I am moving into a house, so I cancelled the cable at the apartment and setup a new account at the house. CableGuy comes by and sets up the digital cable... I setup the cable modem. It works right away, without having to install anything.... OK... so far so good. Next day - dead. Call Comcast and am told that the modem is not provisioned nor do they show Internet service on the account. Buh. A couple phone calls and that is all taken care of... back online....until 6pm and then it just dies.... no DNS :(
So, I connect the cable modem directly to one of my computers (yeah, I have way too many computers in the house... need a 486DX?) and it says that I have to click download to install the software. I click download and the page refreshes, over and over. So I get out the wonderful Comcast CD and try to install. Now I get an error message from Comcast that their registration system is down and that the customer service agents have no idea about it so don't call. (Hey, at least they were honest about it.)
So, I am offline until they get their act together.
Buh.
